Boost Pressure Test
BOOST PRESSURE, CHECKINGNOTE: Boost pressure can be measured either while driving or on dynamometer
- Engine oil temperature: minimum 80°C (176°F)
- Pull ignition distributor vacuum line off intake manifold (arrow)
- Connect pressure gauge VW 1397 with T-connection, between previously removed vacuum hose and intake manifold
- Place pressure gauge on front passenger seat
NOTE: Do not pinch off hose or restrict in any way when placing gauge inside vehicle.
- Open valve on pressure gauge (arrow)
- Run engine in second gear at 4,000 RPM (full throttle)
- Close shut-off valve on pressure gauge (arrow)
Pressure specification relative to outside temperature
Example
- At 10°C (50°F) pressure should be 0.42 bar (6.1 psi)
If specified values are NOT obtained:
- Replace wastegate as a test measure
If value is still NOT obtained:
- Reinstall original wastegate valve, perform trial replacement of turbocharger (after repeated pressure tests)
