Fuel Pump Delivery Rate

NOTE:
- battery must be fully charged (minimum 12 volts) and fuse # 13 OK
- fuel filter must be clean and installed properly
- use adapter VW 1348/3A





1984-1985





1986-1988
- remove fuel pump relay from fuse panel (see arrow)
- Switch OFF VW 1348/3A and connect VW 1348/3A to fuse panel in place of fuel pump relay
- remove fuel pump access cover from trunk compartment floor
- pull back insulation of fuel pump harness connector
- connect multimeter US 1119 to harness connector terminals (leave plug connected to fuel pump)
- turn switch of remote control VW 1348/3A ON
- check voltage of running fuel pump should be at least 9.0 volts
- switch OFF remote control VW 1348/3A





- disconnect fuel return line at connection (arrow)





- hold fuel return line into graduated beaker
- turn switch of VW 1348/3A ON for 30 seconds
- fuel pump delivery rate is dependent on battery voltage
- minimum fuel delivery rate, see diagram





*minimum delivery rate in cubic centimeters per 30 seconds at fuel return line
**voltage of running fuel pump with engine not running should be approximately 2 volts less than battery voltage

EXAMPLE
- with 10.0 V, there should be approximately 450 cm3 of fuel
