Replacing bonded rubber bushings in rear control arm support

In addition to the rear control arm support/bushing supplied as a replacement part, the bonded rubber bushings are also available as single replacement parts.

This bulletin describes the replacement of the bushing for the control arm support.

When replacing a control arm support bushing always replace the entire bushing. Also, replace the bushings on both the right and left sides of the vehicle.

The following information will be added to the Audi 5000 and 100/200 Repair Manuals - Suspension, Wheels, at the next filming.





Bonded rubber bushing in control arm support

(from VIN 44G 070 703)

1 - Mounting stud

2 - 170 N-m (125 ft.lb.)
^ always replace
^ clean out threads of control arm with M14 x 1.5 tap
^ tighten only with vehicle standing on wheels

3 - Washer

4 - Bonded rubber bushing
^ replacing, in this bulletin

5 -135 N-m (100 ft.lb.)
^ always replace

6 - Support
^ install on vehicle so that mounting studs are centered in holes
^ check rear toe after installing

7 - Washer

8 - Trapezoidal control arm





Bonded rubber bushing in control arm support, replacing insert internal extractor tool into bushing so that claws of extractor are located between two halves of bushing use Kukko No. 2112 or equivalent commercially available puller tighten nut (arrow)





- insert M14 bolt (approx. 80 mm long) into bushing hole and press out one half of bushing

Warning
The bushing will part from the support suddenly.

Note:
Do not support the bushing collar on plate, -VW402- when pressing out.

It the bushing core shears off when removing, press out the remaining other halt of the bushing with a suitable thrust piece, or cut open the outer metal shell of the bushing with a hacksaw.





- press out second half of bushing





- press one half of bushing into support as far as stop





- press second half of bushing into support approx 5.0 mm





- place support onto two plates -VW401- and -VW402- and press as far as stop
