Suspension Strut Replace

QUATTRO COUPE & QUATTRO TURBO

1. Remove wheel cover and loosen lug nuts, then remove dust cover and the axle shaft nut.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
3. Press off tie rod end.
4. Remove bolts and clamps indicated by arrows, Fig. 3, then remove brake caliper, leaving brake hoses attached.
5. Remove brake disc.
6. Remove stabilizer bar. Wheels must be on ground when installing stabilizer bar.
7. Remove ball joint from hub by prying downward.
8. Using suitable puller, press out stub axle from hub.
9. Remove upper suspension strut attaching nut, while holding strut from below, then remove strut assembly.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Replace gasket on inner constant velocity joint. Splines on stub axle and wheel hub must be free of oil, grease and old locking compound.
b. Apply bead of suitable locking compound approximately 13/64 inch wide around splines and install stub axle. Let locking compound harden for at least one hour.
c. Torque stabilizer bar attaching bolts to 18 ft.lbs., suspension strut to body bolts to 43 ft.lbs., ball joint clamp nut to 47 ft.lbs., brake caliper attaching bolts to 83 ft.lbs., and the axle nut to 203 ft.lbs.
