Driveshaft Replace

5000 MODELS

1. Remove wheel cover and remove nut securing axle shaft in hub.
2. Raise and support vehicle and remove wheels. Remove shield in right side drive shaft.
3. Remove screws securing drive shaft flange to transmission.
4. On automatic transmission models, remove stabilizer bar clamps and disconnect ball joint from hub.
5. Press axle shaft from hub, Fig. 2.
6. Raise transmission end of shaft and guide axle shaft out of hub. On automatic transmission models, pull suspension strut outward to remove drive shaft.
7. Reverse procedure to install, torque axle shaft nut to 203 ft.lbs. and transmission flange bolts to 32 ft.lbs., 58 ft.lbs. on turbocharged models.
