Accelerator Linkage - Automatic Transmission

(Automatic transmission)

NOTE: The accelerator linkage should be adjusted such that the rpm adjustment lever of the injection pump rests against the idle stop. The linkage lever of the transmission should be in the "No-gas" position. otherwise, the upshifts at medium speeds will occur too late, and when in position "E," the transmission will not uncouple.

- Shift vehicle into "P" position and engage parking brake
- Remove pump cover

- Slacken tension on cold start acceleration cable
- Loosen screw (1) on clamp and turn clamp 90°

CAUTION: Screw (2) must not be loosened.

- Remove linkage for cruise control system
- Turn cold start advance mechanism in "Minus" direction until it stops
- RPM adjustment lever must rest on idle stop, if necessary loosen clamp
- Loosen accelerator pedal cable on linkage lever (transmission)

- Remove linkage rod, and push pressure rod upwards
- Check idle speed and maximum speed
- Adjust if necessary

- Adjust travel of ball end from idle stop (A) to full throttle stop (B) by sliding ball head in the RPM adjustment lever slot to 42 ± 1

- Adjust the linkage length so relay lever aligns with locating hole in support bracket

- Push rod in direction of arrow until a 3.5 mm (0.138 in) wire or pin can be installed in Bore B

- Adjust pressure rod length such that actuation lever (transmission) is at "No-gas" position and rpm adjustment lever is against the idle stop on injection pump

NOTE: The pressure rod must fit on the actuation lever (transmission) without tension.

- Remove pressure rod from actuation lever (transmission)
- Depress accelerator pedal completely

NOTE: This requires two persons.

- Push actuation lever (transmission) up to kickdown stop (arrow B)
- Pull accelerator pedal cable in direction of arrow (A) using pliers, and mount in this position
- Check if actuation lever (transmission) rests on the kickdown stop, if necessary readjust accelerator cable
- Place pressure rod on actuation lever (transmission) and secure
- Remove pin from adjusting bore in pressure rod

Checking Adjustment

- With RPM adjustment lever on idle stop, actuation lever (transmission) must be in "No-gas" position
- Fully depress the accelerator pedal up to the full throttle pressure point (No kickdown)
- The over travel spring must not be compressed
- Depress accelerator pedal past full throttle point (in direction of arrow) up to stop (kickdown)
- Actuation lever (transmission) is against stop and over travel spring is compressed
- Release accelerator pedal
- Re-install cruise control system
- Linkage should be free from tension, adjust if necessary
- Re-install cold start advance mechanism (free from tension)
- Mount cable for cold start accelerator
