The Type VE distributor pump has only a single pump-cylinder and plunger regardless of the number of cylinders the engine has. Fuel delivered by the plunger is apportioned by way of a distributor groove to a number of ports corresponding to the engine's number of cylinders. The distributor pump's housing contains the following functional groups:
High pressure pump with distributor, Mechanical governor, Hydraulic timing mechanism, Vane-type supply pump, Shutoff mechanism.
Fig. 1 shows these groups and their functions. The distributor pump can also be equipped with various supplementary functions to accommodate specific engine characteristics.
