Brake Drum: Service and Repair

Rear Drum Brake System:

1. Raise and support vehicle, remove rear wheels.
2. Remove dust cap, cotter pin, wheel nut cover and wheel nut, then the thrust washer and outer wheel bearing.
3. Remove brake drum as follows.

Rear Drum Brake, Self-Adjusting:

- Reach through wheel bolt hole with screwdriver and pry up adjusting wedge against stop.
4. Fill hub and lubricate wheel bearing with suitable grease, then install drum.
5. After installing brake drum, install wheel bearing and adjust as described in "Rear Axle and Suspension".
6. Depress brake pedal once firmly to set the rear brake shoes.
