Fuel Accumulator: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove fuel pump relay and connect jumper wire with an in-line switch (US4480/3 or equivalent), Fig. 24, ensuring that switch is in OFF position.
2. With the engine at normal operating temperature, run the fuel pump for 30 seconds.
3. Switch the fuel pump off, and observe the fuel pressure.
After 10 minutes the pressure must be 2.6 bar (38 psi) minimum.
After 20 minutes the pressure must be 2.4 bar (35 psi) minimum.
4. Should the residual pressure drop too fast, proceed by elimination:
a. Remove and clean the fuel pump check valve.
b. Check the cold start injector for leaks.
c. Check the injectors for leaks.
d. Check all fittings and connections of the fuel circuit for leaks.
e. Remove and clean the control pressure regulator and replace if necessary.
f. Replace the fuel accumulator.
