Parking Brake Cable Replacement
Exploded View
NOTE:
- The parking brake cables must not be bent or distorted. This will lead to stiff operation and premature cable failure.
- Refer to the Exploded View as needed during these procedure.
Front Parking Brake Cable Replacement
1. Release the parking brake pedal.
2. Remove the driver's side front door sill trim and the kick panel Service and Repair.
3. Remove the footrest Service and Repair.
4. Remove the center console Center Console Removal / Installation.
5. Pull back the carpet from the driver's footwell to access the parking brake cables.
6. Disconnect and remove the return spring (A).
7. Remove the wire guide base (A), then disconnect the rear parking brake cables (B) from the equalizer (C).
8. Remove the parking brake cable from the parking brake pedal assembly.
9. Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the cable.
10. Install the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal.
11. Adjust the parking brake Adjustments.
NOTE: Do the Major Adjustment first, then do the Minor Adjustment. Apply the parking brake firmly 10 times then adjust it again.
Rear Parking Brake Cables Replacement
1. Release the parking brake pedal.
2. Remove the center console Center Console Removal / Installation.
3. Disconnect and remove the return spring (A).
4. Remove the wire guide base (A), then disconnect the rear parking brake cables (B) from the equalizer (C).
5. Remove the parking brake shoes, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever Removal and Replacement.
6. Remove the spindle nut.
7. Remove the hub bearing unit mounting bolts (A).
8. Loosen the anchor nuts (B).
9. Pull back the hub bearing unit (C) and backing plate (D) until the parking brake cable clears the insertion part of the backing plate.
10. Remove the parking brake cable mounting bolts (E) from the backing plate.
11. Pull the parking brake cable (F) and remove it from the backing plate.
12. Remove the parking brake cable grommets (A), and pull out the parking brake cable from the body floor.
13. Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the cable.
14. Install the parking brake cables in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Be careful not to bend or distort the cable.
15. Adjust the parking brake Adjustments.
NOTE: Do the Major Adjustment first, apply the parking brake firmly 10 times, then do the Minor Adjustment again.
