Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio unit does display XM channels) (Canada models with navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connector for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the radio reception in an open area. Poor reception/interference can be caused by tall buildings, mountains, or high-voltage power lines are nearby.
- If you can only tune to channel 000, 001, 174, and 247, make sure the audio-navigation unit is set to channel mode. If it is set to channel mode, call XM Radio client support, and check the account activation status.
- If you replace the XM receiver, the AcuraLink must be reactivated by Acura Client Services.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Turn on the audio system and select XM radio.
3. Check for an error message on the display.
Are there any messages displayed?
YES -
Go to Error Codes Audio System Error Codes.
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Disconnect these items:
- Audio-navigation unit connector C (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
5. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 6.
6. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 7.
7. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and XM receiver connector A (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good XM receiver XM Receiver Removal / Installation, then reconnect all connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original XM receiver XM Receiver Removal / Installation. If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.
