HDS Does Not Communicate With The BSI




Blind Spot Information System (BSI) Symptom Troubleshooting - HDS does not communicate with the BSI

The HDS does not communicate with the BSI

NOTE:

- If the system malfunctions, always check for DTCs with the HDS.
- If a DTC is stored, troubleshoot the DTC first.

1. Test the battery Battery Test.

Is the battery OK?

YES -

Go to step 2.

NO -

Charge or replace the battery Removal and Replacement as needed, then recheck.

2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector.

3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

4. Make sure the HDS can communicate with the body electrical system.

Is communication possible?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Do the MICU unit input test Drivers and Passengers MICU Input Test.

5. Check for body electrical system DTCs with the HDS.

Are any DTCs indicated?

YES -

Troubleshoot the indicated body electrical system DTC(s), and retest.

NO -

Go to step 6.

6. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

7. Check the connection at the BSI control unit 16P connector.

Is the connection OK?

YES -

Go to step 8.

NO -

Repair the poor connection, and recheck.

8. Disconnect the BSI control unit 16P connector.

9. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

10. Measure the voltage between BSI control unit 16P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 10. There should be battery voltage.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Go to step 11.

11. Measure the voltage between BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 10 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Repair an open in the wire between the BSI control unit and body ground (G603).

NO -

Repair an open or short to ground in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the BSI control unit.

12. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

13. Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P).

14. Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P) terminal No. 6 and BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 6, and between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P) terminal No. 5 and BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 5.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 15.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the BSI control unit.

15. Reconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (20P).

16. Reconnect the BSI control unit 16P connector.

17. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

18. Check that the HDS can communicate with the BSI system.

Is communication possible?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

NO -

Replace the BSI control unit BSI Control Unit Removal/Installation.
