HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - Bluetooth audio does not work
Bluetooth audio does not work (with navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Turn on the audio unit, and press HDD/AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.
Does it change to Bluetooth audio source?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the audio-navigation unit is OK at this time.
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Pair and check the Bluetooth device function on a known-good vehicle equipped with Bluetooth audio.
Is the Bluetooth device normal?
YES -
Check on-line at www.acura.com/handsfreelink or call the HFL call center at 888-528-7876 to make sure the Bluetooth audio device is compatible with the HFL system and that there are no known issues.
NO -
Defective Bluetooth device or is not compatible.
5. Check for the navigation system hard error codes.
Are there any DTC's related to the Display or XM systems?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Go to step 11.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
7. Remove the center console panel Center Console Panel Removal / Installation.
8. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
9. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P).
10. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Remove the center console panel Center Console Panel Removal / Installation.
13. Disconnect these items:
- Audio-navigation unit connector C (14P)
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) (USA models)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (Canada models)
- Navigation display unit 36P connector
- HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector
14. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 15.
15. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
16. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shield harness.
NO -
Go to step 17.
17. Reconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
19. Check if the Bluetooth device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver), the XM receiver, or the navigation display unit.
NO -
Go to step 20.
20. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
21. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
22. Reconnect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) or XM receiver connector A (14P), and the navigation display unit 36P connector.
23. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
24. Check if the XM radio plays.
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit (including the HDD) Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.
