Compass: Adjustments
Electrical Compass Zone Selection and Calibration
Set the Compass Zone
NOTE:
- Do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced.
- Do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, and other vehicles.
- If you see "--" in the compass display and the CAL indicator is shown in the display, the compass is self-calibrating.
- The compass may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the compass seems to be continually showing the wrong direction and is not self-calibrating, do the following procedure.
- In most areas, there is a variation between magnetic north and true north. The compass zone needs to be set to your geographic zone to compensate for this variation.
1. Check the No. 15 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the No. 12 (7.5 A) and No. 18 (7.5 A) fuses in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then press and hold the SET UP button (A) on the audio panel for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep. The display shows the compass setting menu items.
3. Find your zone number in the map shown.
4. Turn the selector knob (A) to select ZONE, then press the knob to enter the selection. The display shows the currently selected zone number.
5. Turn the selector knob to enter your zone, then press the knob, The display returns to its normal display mode.
NOTE: If necessary, press the RETURN button (A) to return to the previous display. Pressing the SET UP button (B) cancels the compass setting mode.
Check the Compass Calibration
Although the compass is self calibrating, it may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the compass is blinking and CAL is shown on the display, do this to calibrate the compass:
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Press and hold the SET UP button (A) for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep. The display shows you the compass setting menu items.
3. Turn the selector knob (B) to select CALIBRATION, then press the knob.
4. When the display shows PUSH CAL START, press the selector knob (A). The compass display blinks and the CAL indicator comes on.
5. Drive the vehicle slowly in three complete circles (20 seconds or more per a circle). When the calibration is successfully completed, the compass display stops blinking and the CAL indicator goes off.
NOTE:
- When you are in the setting mode, pressing the RETURN button (B) returns to the previous display. Pressing the SET UP button (C) cancels the compass setting mode.
- The audio system is not related to the electrical compass system. Even if the electrical compass system is calibrating, the display returns to the normal display which was last selected.
- If the calibration is failure, change the place (an open area away from buildings, power lines, other vehicles, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields) and do the calibration procedure over again.
