MIL Comes On with DTC P1659

REVISION SUMMARY

SYMPTOM

The MIL comes on with DTC P1659 (ETCS control relay OFF malfunction).

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PGM-FI software misinterprets sensor inputs as a problem with the ETCS control relay if the vehicle is jump started, causing DTC P1659 to be set.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS.

Control Module (CM) Update:
Application Version V6.1 9.03 or later
Database Update 22-OCT-2009 or later

NOTE:
To avoid an incorrect repair that would not be covered under warranty, use the software version listed above or a later version.





The updated PGM-FI software program IDs and P/Ns are shown below. If the HDS is loaded with the latest software, and it displays No Update Needed during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-026, Updating Control Units/Modules.
