Symptom Troubleshooting: Bluetooth audio does not work
Bluetooth audio does not work (without navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Turn on the audio unit, and press AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.
Does it change to Bluetooth Audio source?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation) and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.
3. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES - Intermittent failure, the audio unit is OK at this time.
NO - Go to step 4.
4. Check if there is abnormality in the registered device or if it is a compatible model. (handsfreelink.com)
5. Register and check the Bluetooth audio device function on a known-good vehicle equipped with Bluetooth audio.
Is the Bluetooth device normal?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Defective Bluetooth device.
6. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Check for HFL DTCs.
Are there any DTCs indicated?
YES - Go to HFL DTC troubleshooting.
NO - Go to step 7.
7. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (XM and USB).
Is the sound is normal?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Go to step 11.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
9. Disconnect audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
10. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit, Service and Repair and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit.
NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Disconnect these items:
- Audio unit connector C (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
- USB adapter unit connector A (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
13. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit, the XM receiver, the USB adapter unit, and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 14.
14. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 15.
NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
15. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shield harness.
NO - Go to step 16.
16. Reconnect the audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
18. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the XM receiver or the USB adapter unit.
NO - Go to step 19.
19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
20. Remove the center console panel. Center Console Panel Removal/Installation
21. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector. Service and Repair
22. Reconnect XM receiver A (14P) and USB adapter unit connector A (14P).
23. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
24. Check the operation of the reconnected unit.
Is the system normal?
YES - Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit, Service and Repair and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit.
NO - Substitute a known-good audio unit , Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation) and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.
