NOTE:

- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot with the HDS, and review General Troubleshooting Information. How to Troubleshoot A/T Systems

- This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3. Start the engine.

4. With the brake pedal pressed, move the shift lever through all positions. Stop for at least 1 second in each position.

5. Monitor the OBD STATUS for P0705 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate FAILED?
YES - Go to step 6.

NO - If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for an intermittent short in the wire between the transmission range switch and the PCM. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 3.

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

7. Disconnect the transmission range switch connector.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

9. Check the ATPP, ATPR, ATPN, ATPD, ATPS, ATPFWD, and ATPRVS inputs with the HDS in the A/T Data List.

Are there any ON-inputs?
YES - Repair short in the ON-input circuit:

- ATPP circuit: between PCM connector terminal A16 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 7.

- ATPR circuit: between PCM connector terminal C25 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 8.

- ATPN circuit: between PCM connector terminal C26 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 3.

- ATPD circuit: between PCM connector terminal C17 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 9.

- ATPS circuit: between PCM connector terminal C46 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 4.

- ATPFWD circuit: between PCM connector terminal C18 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 5.

- ATPRVS circuit: between PCM connector terminal C19 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 2.

Go to step 12 after repairing the circuit.

NO - Go to step 10.

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

11. Inspect the transmission range switch. Transmission Range Switch Test

Is the transmission range switch OK?

NO - Replace the transmission range switch, Service and Repair then go to step 12.

12. Start the engine.

13. With the brake pedal pressed, move the shift lever through all positions. Stop for at least 1 second in each position.

14. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0705 indicated?
YES - Check for intermittent short in the wire between the transmission range switch and the PCM, then go to step 12.

NO - Go to step 15.

15. Monitor the OBD status for P0705 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED?
YES - Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 14, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

NO - If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals between the transmission range switch and the PCM, then go to step 1. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 12.

16. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, PCM Update or substitute a known-good PCM. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

17. Start the engine.

18. With the brake pedal pressed, move the shift lever through all positions. Stop for at least 1 second in each position.

19. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0705 indicated?
YES - Check for intermittent short in the wire between the transmission range switch and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview then go to step 17. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.

NO - Go to step 20.

20. Monitor the OBD status for P0705 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED?
YES - If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM. PCM Replacement If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 19, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
