SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-79
DTC 85-79: OPDS Sensor Initial Check Failure
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
4. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
5. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
NO - Go to step 7.
7. Initialize the ODS unit. ODS Unit Initialization
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - The system is OK.
NO - Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the OPDS sensor/seat-back cover/pad, Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement then clear the DTC.
