85-61
SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-61, 85-62
DTC 85-61: No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62: Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. Procedures
1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Check the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness).
5. Disconnect the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
7. Measure the voltage between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Open between the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
9. Measure the resistance between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminals No. 12 and No. 17 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Open between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No 12 and body ground (G702) or poor connection at G702.. SRS Floor Wire Harness Connector And Harness Locations
10. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
11. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit. Service and Repair
12. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Short to ground between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
13. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 14.
NO - Open between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
14. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
16. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES - Go to step 17.
NO - Short to power between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
17. Replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC.
18. Clear the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
19. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES - Replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement
NO - This system is OK.
