DTC 81-79: Front Passenger's Weight Sensors Initial Check Failure
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DTC 81-79 indicated?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
4. Make sure nothing is on or under the front passenger's seat.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
NO - Loosen the front passenger's seat mounting bolts, Front Seat Removal/Installation and shake the seat in all directions. Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque, then calibrate the ODS unit. ODS Unit Initialization If the problem is still present, replace the front passenger's weight sensor assembly, Service and Repair then clear the DTC, and if the problem is still present, replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC.
