Condenser Fan: Description and Operation

Radiator and condenser fan operation is controlled by the radiator fan control module.

The radiator fan control module is supplied battery voltage at all times through fuse 34 (2.2L/2.3L) or 39 (3.0L). When the ignition switch is in its ON (II) or START (III) position, voltage is supplied through fuse 4.

When the ignition switch is in its ON (II) position, battery voltage is also supplied to the radiator fan control module through fuse 8. The module is grounded at G402.

The radiator fan control module turns ON the condenser fan and radiator fan for engine and refrigerant cooling whenever the A/C is ON.

If the engine coolant temperature is more than 106° C (223° F) when you turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), the radiator fan control module will turn ON the radiator fan and let it run for about 15 minutes.

Condenser Fan
Voltage is provided at all times to the condenser fan relay contacts through fuse 34 and the WHT wire.

The radiator fan control module applies voltage to the condenser fan relay coil. The relay is grounded by radiator fan switch A when coolant temperature exceeds 93° C (199° F). The relay is also grounded by the ECM.

Grounding energizes the relay, applying voltage to the condenser fan motor through the WHT wire, the condenser fan relay contacts, and the BLU/YEL wire.
