Shift Interlock Control Module: Testing and Inspection
TERMINAL INSPECTION1. Disconnect the 8P connector from the interlock control unit.
2. Inspect the connector and connector terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
- If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
- If the terminals look OK, make the following input test at the connector.
INPUT TEST
Terminal Location/ID:
- If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
- If all the input tests prove OK, substitute a known-good control unit, and recheck the system. If the check is OK, the control unit must be faulty: replace it.
NOTE: If the shift lock solenoid clicks when the ignition switch is turned ON and the brake pedal is depressed with the shift lever in [P] position, the shift lock system is normal; if the shift lever cannot be shifted from [P] position, test the A/T gear position switch.
