Repair Procedure
REPAIR PROCEDURE1. Lower the door glass.
2. Remove the inner door handle cover, and loosen the two inner handle screws. Do not remove the screws.
3. Remove the door panel and the door mirror as described on pages 20-4 and 20-12 of the 1997 2.2CL Service Manual.
4. Carefully peel off the rear channel guide cover, and remove the four screws.
5. Remove the rear channel guide by pulling it toward you, then up and out of the door.
6. Remove the armrest bracket, the door speaker, and the plastic cover.
7. Raise the glass until you can see the mounting bolts through the access holes in the door.
8. While holding the glass, remove the mounting bolts. Carefully pull out the glass.
9. Loosen the four regulator mounting bolts, and push the bottom two bolts to the full-forward position. Retighten the bolts to 8 N-m (6 lb-ft).
10. Remove the old run channel.
11. Install the new run channel. Start at the front corner, and work your way back.
12. Reinstall the glass and its mounting bolts. Be sure the glass sits properly in the run channel.
13. Lower the glass, and reinstall the rear channel guide and cover.
14. Raise and lower the window to make sure it slides smoothly in the run channel, then raise the window to the fully closed position.
15. Checking to see if the run channel contacts the glass evenly, use a 0.25 mm feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the window and the run channel in the area shown. If the feeler gauge slips under the run channel at any point, readjust the run channel.
16. With the window fully closed, reinstall the door mirror. Keeping the window closed keeps the run channel from deforming when the mirror nuts are tightened.
17. Reinstall the plastic cover, the door speaker, the armrest bracket, and the door panel.
18. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm the wind noise is gone.
