A/T - D4 Light Blinks Intermittently


Blinking D4 Light

SYMPTOM

The D4 light blinks intermittently while driving, and the tachometer needle fluctuates. This usually occurs after 15 to 20 minutes of driving at a steady cruising speed of 35 to 65 mph. No DTCs are stored.

PROBABLE CAUSE
An error in the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the TCM.

Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Technical Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

DIAGNOSIS
Use the PGM Tester to look for any TCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

- If any DTCs are stored, troubleshoot that DTC.
- If no DTCs are stored, continue to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the right door sill molding.
2. Pull back the carpet on the passenger's side.





3. Remove the ECM cover (4 nuts).





4. Turn over the ECM cover. Disconnect the two connectors from the TCM.
5. Remove the TCM (3 bolts).
6. Install the new TCM. Reconnect the connectors.
7. Reinstall the ECM cover.
8. Reinstall the carpet and the door sill molding.
