New Belt
NOTE:- This procedure is for replacing the timing belt. If you are reusing the timing belt, refer to Reusing Old Belt. Install the timing belt in the reverse order of removal; Only key points are described here.
- Clean the upper and lower covers before installing then.
Drive Pulley At TDC:
1. Set the timing belt drive pulley so the No. 1 piston is at TDC. Align the dimple on the tooth of the timing belt drive pulley with the pointer on the oil pump.
Front Pulley View:
Rear Pulley View:
2. Set the camshaft pulleys so the No. 1 piston is at TDC. Align the TDC marks on the camshaft pulleys to the pointers on the back covers.
3. Remove the battery clamp bolt from the back cover.
4. Remove the auto-tensioner.
5. Hold the auto-tensioner with the maintenance bolt pointing up. Loosen and remove the maintenance bolt.
NOTE:
- Handle the autotensioner carefully so the oil inside does not spill or leak.
- Replenish the autotensioner with oil if any spills or leaks. The total capacity is 6.5 ml (0.22 fl. oz).
6. Clamp the boss of the autotensioner in a soft jawed vise.
NOTE: Do not grip the housing of the autotensioner.
Screwdriver In Maintenance Hole:
7. Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the maintenance hole. Place the stopper (P/N 14540-P8A-A01) on the autotensioner while turning the screwdriver clockwise to compress the bottom.
NOTE: Take care not to damage the threads or the gasket contact surface with the screwdriver.
Maintenance Bolt Installation:
8. Reinstall the maintenance bolt.
NOTE: Be sure to use a new gasket.
Auto-Tensioner Installation:
9. Make sure no oil is leaking around the maintenance bolt, then install the autotensioner.
NOTE: Make sure the stopper stays in place.
Timing Belt Installation Sequence:
10. Install the timing belt tightly in the sequence shown.
(1) Timing belt drive pulley
(2) Adjusting pulley
(3) Rear camshaft pulley
(4) Water pump pulley
(5) Front camshaft pulley
(6) Idler pulley.
NOTE: Make sure the timing belt drive pulley and camshaft pulleys are at TDC.
Idler Pulley:
11. Tighten the idler pulley bolt.
Belt Stopper:
12. Remove the stopper.
13. Install the lower cover and upper covers.
14. Install the crankshaft pulley, then tighten the pulley bolt.
15. Rotate the crankshaft pulley about five or six turns clockwise so the timing belt positions on the pulleys.
Crankshaft Pulley At TDC:
Front Camshaft Pulley At TDC:
Rear Camshaft Pulley At TDC:
16. Check that the crankshaft pulley and camshaft pulleys are at TDC.
17. If either camshaft is not at TDC, remove the timing belt and adjust, then reinstall the timing belt.
18. After installation, adjust the P/S pump belt.
